Section of the AAMD Guidelines relied upon for the exception to 1970
Cumulative facts and circumstances
Explain why the object fits the exception set forth above
Although the work has provenance established to ca. 1970, The Metropolitan Museum of Art has been unable to substantiate the precise date of acquisition because the former owner is now deceased. This delicately beautiful work is an important addition to the strength of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection because it displays two strong indicators (the downward hanging snake, and the partial indication of a feather crown and sun disk) of a religious function for this type of work.
