Partial interest received prior to 2008
Explain why the object fits the exception set forth above
This work has established provenance to at least 1993 and, prior to that date, was the in the Kyros Melas Collection. The work was accepted as a partial gift in 2006. This helmet is a welcome addition to The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s significant holdings of ancient Greek armor. It is a rare example of a subtype of the Illyrian helmet, of which only three other examples are known. One of these is in The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collections (35.11.2).
